29/11/03 Parscelona 3 Inter Malamb 3

November 29th 2003

St Leonards, Dunfermline

Parscelona could have won this game but in the end a draw was a fair result and at least the performance showed a lot of improvement over the humping at the hands of Raith Rovers the week before.

The game did not start well for the hosts as a Dons striker managed to beat Grant Macleod for pace and drive low past Marc Driver in the Pars goal.

Parscelona battled to get back into the game quickly though. Alan Maxwell set up Ali McLeod with a good chance but his effort was cleared. Aberdeen however could only clear the danger at the expense of a corner kick, which Neil Holland lifted into the box to allow Grant Macleod to head home.

Johnnie MacDougall might have given Parsca the lead had he not been tackled at the last minute. He then got on the end of the resulting corner but sent his effort over the bar.

Aberdeen should have taken the lead with a powerful drive from the edge of the box but Ally Mooney, making his next long awaited  guest appearance bravely stuck his head in the way and directed the ball over from 2 yards out. The corner kick gave problems to Parsca as well, but the ball was eventually fired over the bar.

There were a couple of narrow escapes for Parsca. A long kick-out from the Aberdeen keeper set up their striker with a free run at goal but luckily for the hosts the ball got trapped between his feet. Parsca again rode their luck when the ball hit the post and was knocked back in, but the 2nd effort was disallowed for offside.

Parsca were much improved in the opening period of the second half and gained an early lead. Neil Holland's long-range drive was parried wide by the keeper but a low corner kick from Neil found Ali McLeod who scored from close range.

Parsca's lead was extended again when Alan Maxwell sent Ali McLeod through on goal to gain his second of the afternoon amid protests from the Aberdeen defenders.

Aberdeen pulled one back after some shoddy defending of a corner kick by Parsca and very nearly levelled it when they hit another effort onto the post.

The equaliser did come when Callum Norris attempted to head the ball back to the keeper but sent it into the path of a Dons attacker for an easy goal. Defeat was avoided thanks to a goal-line header by Mark Falconer in the dying minutes.
