26/07/03 Parscelona 5 PSJ 4

Dalgety Bay

It was a winning start for Parscelona this season although in the end it was very close.

PSJ took the lead through a bizarre goal. The ball was toe-poked towards Marc Driver, making his first goalkeeping appearance for Parsca, and what seemed like a harmless shot was parried and spun back into the net.

Parscelona equalised however when Grant Macleod found space to welly home a volley from a corner kick. Parscelona then took the lead after Alan Maxwell dispossessed a PSJ defender and slotted it past the keeper.

The lead was extended when Callum Norris hit a fine strike from distance but PSJ pulled one back following a good save from Marc which unfortunately rebounded to the feet of one of the Perth lads.

Parsca stretched their lead back to two goals again from the penalty spot, Alan Maxwell scoring the kick after being shoved in the box, and went into the break 5-2 in front courtesy of a mazy run through the middle of the park by Chris Ozog, his run matched by a well-placed low finish.

PSJ hit the post just before half time but Parscelona held on.

Kevin Heller, who makes a habit of scoring against Parsca, brought PSJ back into the game with a fine strike into the roof of the net and, after Grant Macleod had seen a long range shot and a good header both saved, PSJ grabbed another. This time a corner kick was dropped by Marc and moonlighting Erin Hibs player Steven Carr made no mistake in battering the ball home from close range.

Parsca had the opportunity to extend the lead again through Ross McGregor but his attempted lob failed to clear the keeper. Marc Driver had one more fine save to make to deny PSJ a draw, and Callum Norris very nearly put it beyond doubt with a long distance drive in the dying minutes that flew wide of the target.

Parscelona squad: A. Maxwell, C. Lister, Alex Mercer, E. Campbell, R. McGregor, G. Macleod, N. Holland, S. Dick, S. Manson, C. Norris, F. Adamson, C. Ozog, M. Driver, S. Clark, J. MacDougall - not 100% convinced I've got the entire squad correct, but trust me, the stats were all updated at the time so they're right.
