Parscelona 0 Erin Hibs 10
St Leonards Park, Dunfermline
Sadly there were no notes taken at this game, so what follows is
more a list of events than a match report. It's all done from my
memory, so don't expect much detail. Or indeed descriptions of
every goal. To be honest it doesn't matter, we were just pish.
"Could the Parsca players get there around about 10am so we don't start the match with half the team in the changing rooms." Johnnie "I'll be there in five minutes" MacDougall |
St Leonards wasn't in the best of conditions for playing due to a heavy downpour on Friday night and Saturday morning. While the rain had mainly stopped in time for the (late-running) game, the pitch was covered in huge puddles and within minutes had been shredded.
A weak Parscelona side didn't hold out very long before Hibs took the lead. The ball bounced about on the edge of the box before being fired over the head of Alan Maxwell, who was rooted to the spot (almost literally).
Hibs' second came when a shot was fired in from the left but while Alan's sprawling dive across the six yard lagoon resulted in contact with the ball it wasn't enough to stop it going in.
Steve Carr got a third for Hibs when, after having his first effort blocked, he fired home his second attempt from close range.
A Hibs attacker then managed to nudge Grant Macleod off the ball and stroll in to put away the fourth at the near post.
The fifth came from a free kick at the edge of the box, and a sixth was added before half time when Alan struggled to stay on his feet in the mudbath inside the box.
Parscelona had had a couple of chances in the first half, but Colin McKean couldn't find his way past the Hibs keeper, and the home team were denied a penalty by the Hibs sub acting as referee for the first half.
In the second half, Parscelona took the hint and changed goalkeeper but Keith Mackie wasn't to have a clean sheet for long either. A corner caused all sorts of problems for the Pars defence before being looped over the head of Keith and Chris on the line.
Hibs then scored three more, and Colin McKean came close for the Pars after disposessing the Hibs keeper.
All in all a pish performance.
