Alan Hansen would have loved this one:-) Despite the fact that it was pissin down, the lack of any wind in Dalgety Bay and an excellent astro turf surface made for almost ideal conditions for football. As the teams lined up, the Pars forward line, looked to be unsportingly fit:-) and so it proved. Within twenty second seconds they were ahead after we kicked off and presented them with the ball. Linford Christie dashed up the left wing and crossed for Alan Wells to poke the ball home. I'll leave Lynn of the Pars to remind me of the proper names of their forward line, but I look forward to seeing them in a Scottish strip at Leicester. Stung by the ease with which the Pars scored, AC Celtic soon got their act together and with 16 year old Sean Collins appearing all over the place, the Pars were pegged back in their own half. Indeed much of this match belonged to the clan Collins. They might be responsible for some absurd fishing on the Celtic list, but each one of them can play a bit. After Big Ronz (sp?) in the Pars goal had made some good stops he was caught out with a lob from Uncle Rab Collins. Rab was then substituted for his troubles. Back came the Pars again and a terrific solo goal was scored by their striker, Colin Mc.Kean(?). 2-1 the Pars. Back came ACC as the game went from end to end and Sean Collins made an opening for himself to slot home the equaliser. The Celts went 3-2 when Sean got his second. This was after I had caught the number 53 bus to the penalty area and slipped him a through ball. 3-2 to AC Celtic. Straight from the kick off, the Pars equalised, our defender Ged Seagrave doing a good impression of Harald Brattbakk trying to control the ball. Credit to Colin Mc.Kean, I think it was, who took full advantage of the slip to leave big LAz in our goal with no chance. The scores were not tied for too long as Dave Gardner fired in a cracking twenty five yarder which sped in at the keeper's left hand post. HT ACC 4 Pars 3 The second half was a half of two halves, if you know what I mean. For the first twenty minutes the bhoys in green and white had the home side under the cosh. Further goals from Sean Collins for his hat trick, a Rab Collins penalty and a Brian Galagher free kick took the score to 7-3. Credit to the Pars though as they came storming back to pull the score back to 7-6. Just when they looked as though they might have snatched a draw Dunfermline left themselves a little exposed at the back and young Liam Collins took advantage of good play by Mark Seagrave to slot the ball home for his second goal in two games. Not bad for a fourteen year old. 8-6 the final score and both teams can take credit from the match which was played in excellent spirit. A terrific fightback by the home team also contributed to an exciting end to an entertaining encounter in which both teams got the ball down and played the ball through the midfield. It was good to have a drink with Lynn, Keith and some other members of the Parscelona squad after the match. I hope this does n't come across as patronising, but I'm sure I speak for many Celtic supporters who were sad to see Dunfermline being relegated. A smashing support, an excellent stadium and good pubs in the town. The Pars team are perhaps short of a midfield player for the Premier League, but I won't be surprised if they bounce straight back up. Anyway haste ye back Pars! AC Celtic are due to play Parscelona, who are a great crowd, again on Friday 4th June in Edinburgh. We look forward to meeting them again and enjoying some beevies after the match.
